View of Cullompton, Devon, UK. Cullompton is a small market town, just off the M5 motorway between Exeter and Taunton. The Parish of Cullompton extends about seven miles along the valley of the River Culm, with a population of about 8000 people. Although not the largest town in Devon, at one time, Cullompton was one of the most important woollen towns in the county and still has a thriving community. Columtune was probably a Saxon settlement. The Saxon word 'tun' means town or settlement. Columtune means the town on the Culm.. |
