Bradninch is often looked upon as a village but is an old market town on the western side of Culm valley, situated 3 miles from Collumpton, 9 miles from Exeter, and about a mile from the Hele Station on the Bristol and Exeter Railway line, near the small river Culm. Its parish, has a population of about 2000. The town consists mainly of one long street, and has suffered several times by large fires, arising from the thatched roofs of its houses, most of which have been replaced with slate.. |
